Randolph John Merino Jr.
RMerinoJrWe lost a legend of his own time, Randy John Merino Jr, who was loved by everyone that came in contact with him. Randy was 69 years old and passed on March 21, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Redding, Ca. surrounded by the love, laughter, and tears of his family.

Randy was born on August 29, 1946 to Randolph and Rosina Merino of Taylorsville, Ca. where he grew up. His younger days were spent roaming the hills surrounding his dads home causing mischief with his 5 brothers, 1 sister and numerous cousins.

Randy had served in the Army and after his discharge, he went back home to Greenville where he made a career out of logging which he loved, up until 10 years ago when he became injured, fracturing his hip and leaving him unable to work.

He lived the last 27 years happily content with the love of his life, Brenda, and their children, and the best years with all his grandchildren.

Randy is survived in life by his father Randolph Sr., his 3 brothers, Reggie, Harvey, and Mono Merino, and his 1 sister Karen Washoe. Mother Rosina and 2 brothers Anthony and Rodney preceded Randy in death but he is now reunited with him the happy hunting grounds.

Randy is also survived by his wife of 27 years Brenda of Susanville, Ca., their 8 children and 12 grandchildren. Randolph (Rudy) his children Jasmine, Cyndal, Gwynever, and Randolph the 4th, all from Oroville, Ca. Steven (Rabbit) his children Benjamin, and Xavier, all of Susanville, Ca. Sonny, his wife Katie, their children Rodger, and little Sonny all of Hopland, Ca. Ernest (Goose) of Hopland, Ca., Skye, her daughter Bella of Stockton, Ca., Kenneth (Scooter) his son Kyro of Susanville, Ca.

Randy was one of a kind. The type of man who never expected anything from anyone, but was always there for everyone who needed him. If you knew Randy, you knew he was his own Indian. Not no John Wayne T.V. Indian. He will be greatly missed and forever remain in our hearts.

Until we meet again The Indian Outlaw.

David Frank Mowbray

DavidMowbrayDavid Frank Mowbray was born to Frank and Jean Mowbray on March 3rd 1953 in Red Bank New Jersey.  He unexpectedly passed while in Tampa, Florida helping his family, and is survived by his loving wife Cathy whom he married in 2001.  David was an outstanding lifelong musician who attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

He had a natural talent for entertaining and performing, most recently as a member of Side FX.  David also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and always had time to share a smile or laugh with his family and friends.  David will undoubtedly be remembered by everyone he met throughout his life spent in New Jersey, the Tampa, Florida area, and Susanville, California.  Most recently David enjoyed working as a warehouse supervisor with teammates he cared for at the California Correctional Center, but many may also remember David from his years at Lassen Beverage.

David is survived by his mother Jean of Tampa, Florids, loving wife Cathy of Susanville; daughter Rachel and son David of Colfax, California; Brother Greg of Oakland, California; Brother Chris (Bill) of Springhill, Florida; Brother Frank (Laurie) of Florida; and his Aunt Doris Leahy of Holmdel, New Jersey.  David was very close with his extended family including his brothers in-law Clark Haley of Kalispell, Montana; Craig (Kris) Haley of Phoenix, Arizona; and Sister in-law Chris (Ed) Kenna of Mesa, Arizona.  David was a wonderful step-father to Dr. Tod Singletary (Lyn) of Okinawa, Japan; Eric (Becky) Singletary of Ridgecrest, California; and Kevin (Hannah) Singletary of Susanville.  David is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  David often remarked that time well spent was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (Talia, Robert, Carter, Shayla, Paige, Morgan, Macie, Blake, Angelo, and Shane) in a home filled with love, laughter, and music.

And if I never get to build my mansion in Georgia or drive a sports car up the coast of California Oh, if all I got was your hand in my hand Baby I could die a happy man

An event will be scheduled this summer to celebrate the life of our happy man, who we all will miss terribly forever.

Edna Virginia Stacy Koziol – April 10, 2016

Edna Virginia Stacy Koziol

Edna KoziolEdna Virginia Stacy Koziol was born in St. Joseph, MI on October 6, 1927 to Gertrude Stacy and Robert Myers and passed away after a long illness at the home of her daughter Sophia and son-in-law James Wages, on April 10, 2016. She is also survived by her granddaughters Stacy Wages (Susanville, CA) and Jamie (Joe) Curran and triplet grandsons , Jackson, James, and Miles (Scottsdale, AZ). Preceding her in death was her husband Larry, son Barry, and half-brother Kenneth Fowler of Michigan. She is also survived by her half-sister Betty Fowler Halfacre, of Beechgrove, TN and nieces and nephews.

Edna attended and graduated high school from the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, MI 1946. She lived on campus during the school year and returned home for the summers due to the long distance from her home to the school. At an early age, her mother passed away and she was raised by her aunt and uncle along with her cousins. She especially enjoyed spending her summers on the farm, gardening and tending to the farm animals.

Several years later, she moved to Duluth, MN and worked in several factory jobs and spent weekends with her friends at many organized deaf social events where she met her husband-to-be, Larry, and a two-year courtship followed.

Upon hearing from Larry’s brother, Henry, about the logging industry in Northern California, Larry moved to Susanville to work. Edna soon followed, and on November 24, 1951, they were married at the St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno, NV and made their home in Susanville.

After her children were of school age, Edna worked outside her home at the Model Laundry in the 1960s and later she was employed by the Hotel Mt. Lassen. In her spare time, she would crochet and sew, with her finished products always professional in appearance.

Spring, Summer, and Fall were Edna’s favorite times of the year as she would plan in the Winter which garden vegetables and flowering plants she would grow. She paid close attention to Lassen County’s unpredictable weather, ensuring that her new growth would not freeze.

Even though Edna lived her entire life in silence, she kept abreast of the local and national news by watching closed-caption television. She watched her favorite daytime tv shows, and her favorite series “Hawaii 5-0” and “Blue Bloods.” She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and piecing together difficult puzzles.

When she came to live with her daughter 8 years ago, her motherly instincts were revived. She managed the entire household; caring for the pets, washing clothes, ironing, shopping, cooking cleaning, maintaining the garden and yard work…she did it all; just as she did many years ago, raising and caring for her family again. She truly enjoyed helping out, until she was no longer able.
Edna was a gentle person and her eyes revealed who she was… loving, caring and courageous. There was always sunshine in her smile. Her heart was as big as the heavens and she will be embraced by the Lord and all of his angels.

A memorial mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish at a later date.

and sunshine in her smile.
There’s love in everything she died
to make our lives worthwhile.
We can find both hope and courage
Just by looking in her eyes.
Her laughter is a source of joy,
her works are warm and wise.
There is a kindness and compassion
to be found in her embrace,
and we see the light of heaven
shining from a Mother’s face.

Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Cecil Webb

Cec Webb colorCecil Webb of Reno died of pneumonia at age 87 on Friday, July 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Cec was born August 19, 1928 to H. C. and Addie Webb in El Paso, TX. The family moved to Seattle where he graduated from U. of Washington in 1950 with a major in Journalism. He served in the Army Signal Corps in Germany during the Korean war.

After the army Cec took a summer broadcasting course at Stanford where he met his wife Dayne. They married, started a family and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until 1971. The family learned to ski when the children were in grade school. One reason they bought KSUE, Susanville’s only radio station, is because it was near good skiing.

The station was a family operation: Cec built an FM station in 1976, and when the children were in high school they worked the night shift as disc jockeys. He and Dayne sold the stations in 1989 and they moved to Reno in 2000.

A proud moment was in 1978 when the California Associated Press gave the KSUE news department the Mark Twain Award for the best news operation of the year. Another proud moment was when the PGA recognized Cec for making a hole-in-one at Emerson Lake Golf Club in Susanville on January 11, 1999; he tried mightily to make another one at Arrowcreek in Reno.

Cec is survived by his wife Dayne of Reno, his son Dave who now lives with his wife Melinda Welsh in Davis, CA, and his daughter Carol who now lives in Reno with her husband, Bill Monroe, and their two sons, Will and John.

Services will be Saturday, August 6 at 3pm at the First Congregational Church of Reno, 627 Sunnyside Drive, Reno, NV. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Rotary Club of Susanville, P.O Box 1291, Susanville, CA 96130.
