Francis Gerard Jones Jr. (Gery) April 30,1940 – April 4,2024

Francis Gerard Jones Jr. (Gery) passed away at the age of 84 leaving this world a lesser place without him. Gery was born in Nevada as the second of five children, and the first son of Connie and Francis Sr. The family moved to Santa Rosa where Gery met the one and only love of his life Sherry Lain at the Roxy movie theater. Gery was the manager and Sherry worked the concession stand. They were not much more than kids when they took their vows of marriage that lasted 64 years. The love and adoration Gery had for his wife could never be captured with words.

After learning what the plumbers were making in wages when they worked on the Roxy, Gery was determined to become a plumber. When Gery’s application was rejected by Empire Plumbing and Heating, he showed up at the company daily to change their minds. His tenacious effort was eventually noticed by the owner Youl Baker, who agreed to give him a job. Gery’s work ethic and wisdom served him well as the years passed and he rose from apprentice to journeyman and eventually owner of the company with partner John King.

In the 1970’s, having earned seven separate California Contractors licenses, Gery sold his half of Empire Plumbing and Heating to his partner and set out as an entrepreneur.

Gery opened Universal Plumbing and Building and from that point on, Gery built every home his family ever lived in with his own hands.

The first home Gery built was in the foothills of Santa Rosa where he and Sherry turned the estate into a self-supporting ranch, complete with horses, cows’ chickens, rabbits, pigs, and a large garden. On this ranch Gery taught his family the value of hard work and what it is like to live off of the land. From growing their own food, raising beef and pork, to collecting fresh eggs and milking the cow.

With his vast knowledge of uniform building code and pride in everything he did, and after leaving the legacy of the many homes he built, Gery became the Lassen County Building Inspector where he served the community with integrity and excellence before retiring.

Gery was a Christian man, and his faith was strong. He was a deacon in his church, a teacher, a mentor, and a witness for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was humble, generous, honorable, kind and lived his faith. He touched so many lives with his testimony, it is imposable to put a number on it. Gery was the father of three children in whom he instilled his moral compass. His children adored him and continue today to live by their father’s example.

To say Gery was a sportsman and loved the outdoors is a big understatement. He was an avid abalone diver and taught many to negotiate the dangerous waters of the northern Pacific Coast from Jenner to Fort Bragg.

The second half of Gery’s life was spent in the High Sierras or what he liked to call “God’s Country.” From Truckee to Janesville California, Gery proved he was a true and tough mountain man. He hunted deer, elk, wild pigs, ducks, geese, and pheasants. The challenge Gery loved most was sport fishing. From the many streams and rivers in the Northern California mountains to the alpine lakes of the Sierra Mountains, Gery mastered the art of catching trout.

Gery was one of a kind and all who knew him could see that he lived a life filled with love, compassion, humor, adventure, devotion to his beliefs and adoration for his wife Sherry who he called “Charley” as a term of affection.

Gery is survived by his beloved wife Sherry, his three children, Teri, Tony and Dina, his four siblings Ave, Dotti, Patrick and Jenny Lea as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Specifically, Daughter, Dina Bevan and her husband Brian Bevan, of Janesville, Ca. Ronald David Milton passed away on April 12, 2024, after a brief illness at Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville.  He was 84 years of age.

Ron was born in 1939 in Milliken, Colorado.  His family relocated to Lassen County in 1952 and purchased the Buffum Ranch at Leavitt Lake, where the family raised cattle and farmed crops (Lake Leavitt Ranch). Their brand can be seen on the wall in the historic Pioneer Building in uptown Susanville.

Ron was active in the FFA at Lassen High School and graduated with the class of 1958.

Ron married the love of his life, Lynn Dunn, in 1960. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary just prior to Lynns’ passing in 2019.

After the family ranch sold, Ron worked at Sierra West Sales for the Bengard Family and Texaco gas station for his brother, Rick.  Ron and Lynn moved to King City, CA where he worked at an Allis Chalmers tractor dealership for the Markham Family.  They returned to Susanville and Ron began his career at the California Correctional Center in 1973.

When Ron and Lynn retired in 1995, they relocated to Lake City, CA where they had a self-sustainable farm and enjoyed getting back to their roots by raising black angus cattle and other livestock.   Ron was especially proud of his bull he named Justin.  Ron enjoyed remodeling the old farmhouse, woodworking, welding, and spending time with friends and family at their home at Eagle Lake, which they moved to when the farm became too much work for them.  They enjoyed their time spent at Eagle Lake and then moved back to Susanville to live out their retirement.

Ron was blessed to be surrounded by a loving family, wonderful friends and neighbors who would lend a helping hand, whether it be shoveling snow, mending fences, bringing him food or treats, or helping out with things around the house. Odette passed peacefully after complications from open heart surgery that occurred on May 1, 2024. Odette was born in Biddeford, Maine to Arnold Adele Beaudoin and Mary Ida Dorothy Blanchette and known as Dorothy. Odette was proceeded in death by her brother Richard Beaudoin in 1994, mother Dorothy in 1995 and father Arnold in November 2010. Many of you may recall seeing Arnold with Odette around town. The kindest man most may ever know!

Odette became a realtor in Southern California in 1967. She obtained her broker’s license in 1971. She relocated from Southern California to Placerville, California in 1973 where she was introduced to her future husband, Michael. The two were introduced to each other by Michael’s sister Janet and it was a match. They sustained a 165-mile, each direction relationship until they were married in October 1978. Michael sold his home and Odette sold hers and they started the journey to Susanville. In fact, they moved to Sunnyside Road the first week in January 1979.

Odette worked for a short time at Schwelm Realty as a condition of purchasing the 20-acre parcel on Sunnyside Road. She opened her own office later that year at 1955 B Main Street and was trying to get another commitment for a three-year lease, but the owner of the property was not motivated. So, in true Odette fashion she bought the 10-acre commercial property at the corner of 395 and Sunnyside Road and opened just before Christmas 1982.

It was in 1995 that Odette decided she wanted to have an office in Susanville again and purchased the office building at the corner of Fairfield and Main streets. This building was functioning as a Mexican restaurant at the time and Mike and Odette worked to convert it into offices. This building is said to have had an interesting past with a bar downstairs and rumors of a brothel being operated upstairs in years gone by. She had the first floor remodeled in 1995 and second floor in 1996, the company was Realty World Lassen Land and Homes. She maintained both offices until 2010. Odette eventually dropped Realty World name and became Lassen Land and Homes. The office located at the corner of Fairfield and Main streets was recently sold and closed escrow. Odette was concentrating on the Janesville office being so close to her home. Odette is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael Swift. They had no children.

Odette was an adventurer who loved sail boating, loved to fly, loved the ocean, sunsets, gardening, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And, as you read this, we pray you can hear her infectious laughter. Odette loved laughter as much as she loved you. We will miss her.

Steven William Dustin
June 13, 1951 – May 16, 2024
In the early morning hours, with his family by his side, Steve passed away from this beautiful earth.

Steve was born in Herlong California to Raymond and Kathrine (Sturm) Dustin. He was the
baby of five siblings and as such got away with a lot! The family moved into the Honey Lake Valley where Steve attended Janesville Elementary from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The family again moved into Susanville where Steve graduated Lassen High School in 1970. The friendships he collected in those years have been some of his happiest memories. The hunting, fishing, camping and ocean trips with friends and family were treasured times. After High School and having some amazing, crazy and unforgettable memories, Steve met the love of his life, Carole Edwards. She tamed that wild heart and they had 48 wonderful years together, son Mathew and daughter Diana made their family complete.

Steve was an amazing Journeyman Meatcutter blessing dinner tables with some of the best
cuts of meat in his 30 year career. If he wasn’t cutting meat he was hunting or fishing for it! To say Steve was an avid outdoorsman wouldn’t do him justice. He was on the Lassen County Fish and Game Commission and was a member of the Sportsman Club and Mule Deer Foundation. He was lucky to have a best friend/son by his side enjoying the hunts with him and getting some amazing trophy animals. Another beautiful memory was the honor of walking his beautiful daughter down the aisle. He knew how lucky he was to have both of his children and his 9 grandchildren living close by and being able to be in their lives watching them grow up.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James and Charlie and grandson Kadin. Steve leaves behind his wife of 45 years Carole, son and daughter in law Mathew and Erica Dustin, grandsons Corbin Spafford, Chase and Kolten Dustin. Daughter and son in law Diana and Ray Goetchius granddaughter Brianna and grandsons Nathan, Ryan, Dustin and Eastin. Sister and brother in law Sharon and Ken Stapleton and brother and sister in law Ken and Patty Dustin, many beloved nephews, nieces and cousins.

Steve really lived and loved his life for 72 years and his memories and stories will live forever. A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Susanville Monticola Club on South Lassen Street, so get your stories ready! Lunch will be provided. Raymond Kenneth Stout, affectionately known as Pete, passed away June 6, 2024 in Susanville. Pete has been a long-time resident of Susanville since relocating here at the age of 7. He was born on December 20, 1934 in Fort Smith Arkansas to Leroy and Ruth Dorothy Stout. He was the 3rd of 4 boys.

Pete was known for his commitment to family and friends, involvement in youth activities, and passionate work ethic.

Pete met the love of his life, Marion “Ruth” Stout, they married on June 26th, 1954. They were blessed to have 4 children and to be married for close to 50 years before her passing.

Besides raising his family Pete had many close friends and chosen family. He spent his free time tinkering and repairing cars, fishing at eagle lake, or spending time with his many grandchildren or bonus grandchildren in any and all hobbies. He was always willing to cheer on a kid who didn’t have someone there for them and was always seen in the crowd at any youth sporting activity cheering for all teams or competitors.

Pete’s passion for youth led to him being activity involved with many youth organizations over the years. He served as a Boy Scout leader, helped with Campfire girls, coached and volunteered little league, and helped with HLVA playdays just to name a few. His true love was when he became deeply involved in Job’s Daughters, first as a parent, then as Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel #46 of Susanville. He became a Mason in 1982, and was a member of Lassen-Janesville Lodge #149 in Susanville, served as master of the lodge twice. He served in many other masonic organizations including Eastern Star and Demolay.

Pete was a workhorse and a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t do or fix. His grandchildren would joke that nothing was broken unless Grandpa couldn’t fix it. He held many jobs or was seen always lending a hand to anyone he could. He worked for the Sierra Army Depot for 21 years before medically retiring in 1973, Lassen Community College for several years, the Susanville school district as maintenance until retiring in 1997. It is with great sadness that the family of Gilbert W. Pasqua Jr. announce his sudden passing on Friday, June 21, 2024 at the age of 57.  As a beloved father, brother and friend; Gilbert was a caring individual who embodied persistence which was formed by his faith in God.  Over the years, he gained many friends throughout Indian country and was well-known and respected in the local community.  All will remember Gilbert for his dedication working with tribes throughout the United States on environmental issues

Gilbert was born in Susanville CA on March 1, 1967 to Pauline Pasqua and Gilbert Pasqua Sr. He was of Paiute, Pit River, and Tewa Pueblo descent and was raised on the Susanville Indian Rancheria where he was a tribal member.  He attended local elementary schools and graduated from Lassen High School (LHS) in 1985.  While at LHS, he distinguished himself as an athlete.  He won the Coaches Award and was part of the Grizzly football team that went on to win the Eastern Athletic League (and later California North Section Championship) in 1984.

Gilbert earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and & Safety Studies with a Minor in Ethnic Studies from the California State University, Sacramento in 1991.  He continued to reside in Sacramento California until his untimely passing.  Gilberts’ many years working in community development and environmental issues lead him to his most recent position as a Grants Manager with the Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters out of San Francisco where he worked for over 23 years. During that time, he received a number of accolades for all of his accomplishments. Among these honors, was the EPA National Honor Award which he received in 2013 in recognition of his leadership and cross-Agency collaboration in developing the Tribal Consultation Opportunities Tracking System (TCOTS).

Gilbert was proud of his tribal ties and had the heart of a warrior in helping to keep tribal lands vibrant for future generations.  He left a legacy of advocacy, tenacity and persistence in the protection of Tribal community interests and lands.  He overcame many odds to complete his education and to advance issues facing tribal communities, which will be a long-standing testament to his strength and character. He will be greatly missed by all of those who were blessed to be part of his journey.

A Celebration of Gilberts’ life will begin on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 5:30pm with a Wake located at the Susanville Indian Rancheria (SIR) gym 845 Joaquin Street, Susanville, CA.  His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00am also at the SIR gym.  His burial will be at the SIR Cemetery immediately following the Memorial Service.
