Jennifer Lynn Uruburu

Jennifer Lynn Uruburu peacefully passed on to be with Jesus on June 19th, 2021. Reflective of who Jenni was as a person, she embodied the same resilience and perseverance that she brought to all she endeavored in, during the entirety of her battle against cancer. When anyone else would have broken, Jen always stayed strong. Her spirit brought life to every moment here on Earth, and her impact will continue to live on in the many lives that she touched. Jenni’s favorite bible verse Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” is reflective of the spirit that worked in and through her, and stands as a testament of her faith in Christ her Savior.

Jenni was born on April 13th, 1973 in Harbor City, CA to her parents James and Nancy Osborne. As a child, she was diverse and adventurous; a dancer, playing and referring soccer. She was an all-around athlete, full of life, who was fun loving with a heart passionate for people. Her personality was a giving and selfless servant, a protector of the relationships with those fortunate to have her as part of their life.

Jenni met her husband, Jim Uruburu in 1997 in Susanville. They married in ]999 and went on to raise 3 beautiful daughters. Jenni led a life dedicated to those around her with an immense impact, serving and pouring into lives both in her service at church, and in the general community. Jennifer gave all she met a warm welcome into her home and her heart.

Jennifer is survived by her husband, James Uruburu, three children, Ember, Cora, Tatum, son in law Adam Martinez, grandchildren, Annabelle and Quinten, mother
Nancy Larimer and Father Bill Dwinell, along with her 5 loving siblings.

The family would like to invite you to join them for a memorial service at Community Church of Susanville on June 26th at 1:00p.m., immediately followed by a celebration of life at the Elks lodge.

In memory of Louise Camacho.

Surrounded by her loved ones, Louise Camacho passed from this life to the next on July 6, 2021. Louise was a first generation American, born to Joseph and Maria Osa, November 7, 1929, in Susanville, California. She was the eighth child out of ten, having 4 brothers and 5 sisters. She was raised in a neighborhood mainly of Basques and Italians who worked for the Lassen Lumber Mill.  The neighborhood was a close knit community where Louise kept many of the same friends throughout her lifetime. She always said, “It was a wonderful neighborhood to grow up in.”

Louise attended the local schools and was very active in sports. Her senior year at Lassen High School, she received “Female Athlete of the Year.” After high school, she attended Lassen Community College and attained her A.A. in Early Childhood Development.

Throughout high school, Louise had many jobs from being a lifeguard at Roosevelt Swimming Pool to serving sodas at the local soda fountain shop. After starting a family, Louise became a Head Start Teacher, eventually working her way up to Head Teacher. After 33 years of teaching, Louise retired in 2002 from the Rancheria Head Start. She would tell us, “My only hope for all my little four year olds is that they become productive citizens in society.”

While in high school, Louise met Steve Camacho who was a student-athlete at Westwood High School. After high school, Steve joined the Marine Corp and after receiving the Purple Heart in Korea, he returned home and the two married. Over the years they had four sons: Steve, Kevin, Marc and Kase. She was very proud of all of them.

Louise always enjoyed sports both participating and watching. In 1974 she started to play golf and continued to play until she was 89 years old. Golfing with her lady friends was one of her joys in life. Most of the time they played at Emerson Golf Course, however, the ladies loved to tour the North State and play in tournaments from Redding to Willows. She was also active in the Catholic Church and was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Louise believed that staying active kept a person young.

Some of her other passions were old movies, reading, relaxing at her cabin at Lake Almanor, watching local sporting events, and of course, watching the San Francisco 49ers and Giants. If those teams were playing, Louise was watching them! Over the years, Louise had the opportunity to visit Scottsdale and enjoy the Giants spring baseball games.

Louise is survived by her sons, Kevin (grandson Gabe and great grandsons Collin, Joey and Jack) and Kase (wife Carie and granddaughter Madeline). She is also survived by her younger brother, Nick Osa and numerous nieces and nephews. Louise was a beautiful person and will be missed by her family and many friends.

She was proceeded in death by her sons Steve and Marc, eight of her siblings and her mother and father.

A funeral service will be held on August 7th, 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church in Susanville with a reception to follow at Monsignor Moran Hall.

William Dennis Whitcome 1965-2021

William Dennis Whitcome passed away June 6, 2021, at the age of 55, in Susanville, California.  William (Bill) Whitcome was born December 1, 1965, in Susanville, California to Loren and Joyce Whitcome. Bill was the youngest of 3 boys, growing up in Susanville.  He attended McKinley Elementary, Diamond View Middle School, and graduated from Lassen High School in 1984.  He also attended Lassen Community College.

Bill grew up active in the Susanville community, and loved the many friends he made throughout the years.  He was a natural baseball player, playing throughout his childhood in Susanville Little League.  Then becoming a star pitcher and infielder for the Lassen High School Baseball team.  Bill loved the outdoors and could not wait to receive his annual hunting tags or get out to the many fishing areas in Lassen County.

Bill’s greatest pride came in 1989 with the birth of his first son, Kyle Robert Whitcome.  Then following in 1992, with the birth of his second son, Jordan William Whitcome.  He was active as a baseball coach with Susanville Little League, from coaching the boys in T-Ball to Majors.  He had so much pride watching Jordan take the mound as a pitcher, just like his dad.  Bill could always be heard expressing his pride in the boys.  He was able to watch Kyle receive his Electrical Engineering degree from UNR and pin the California Department of Corrections badge on Jordan as he graduated the CDCR Academy. He loved sharing his love of baseball, hunting, and fishing with his sons.  Traveling to many games together, taking the boys shooting, or getting up early to catch the best fish. The hole left in their hearts can only be filled with the memories of how dedicated their father was to them.

Bill worked several years at the Susanville Safeway.  Always a friendly face, whether as a courtesy clerk, or checking out your groceries.  Bill had an infectious smile, upbeat personality, and a laugh that could brighten anyone’s day. Bill moved on in 1995 to become a California Correctional Officer at High Desert State Prison, where he remained until his passing.  He made many friends and was known as somebody who could make them laugh, and always had their backs.

Bill was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.  During any Cubs (Cubbies) games, he could be found pacing in front of the TV, nervously watching every play.  Never a “fair weather” fan, always dedicated in the good years and bad for the team.  He traveled to Wrigley field with his sons to watch them, as well as many other venues to cheer on his favorite team.  Seeing Bill in Cubs fan gear was to be expected if you ran into him around town, rarely without his signature Cubs hat on.

Bill is preceded in death by his Father, Loren Whitcome in 1998, and Mother Joyce Whitcome, in 2019.  He is survived by his sons, Kyle Whitcome of Las Vegas, Nevada and son Jordan Whitcome of Susanville, California.  Brothers Paul Whitcome and Dan Whitcome, both of Susanville.  Nephew Ryan Whitcome, and nieces Amanda and Emily Whitcome.  He was due to become a grandfather to grandson, Maddux William Whitcome, due October 1, 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held July 31, 2021, at 11 am, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, (120 N. Union St. Susanville) with interment to follow at Diamond Crest Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held at Monsignor Moran Hall proceeding the Mass.  Potluck donations are welcome for the luncheon, and may be dropped off at the hall before or after the funeral Mass.  The family asks friends and family to wear their favorite Cubs gear, or red and blue.  A gesture that would make Bill smile and signify his memory. In lieu of flowers, it would honor his family if donations could be made in Bill’s name to Susanville Little League, or the Lassen High School Baseball program.

IN MY HEART

I thought of you today,
But that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.
I think of you in silence,
I often speak your name.
Now all I have are memories,
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is my keepsake,
With which I’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping,
I have you in my heart.

Josephine Unterreiner Obituary

Josephine Unterreiner, 94, died peacefully August 14, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada. She was in the care of Hospice and had three children and a granddaughter present at the time of her passing.

The Holy Rosary will be August 27, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Funeral service will also be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m.

Josephine was born in Aargau, Switzerland on February 28, 1927. She was the firstborn of her parents John and Josephine Frey who also had one more daughter and two sons.

When Josephine was three years old the family moved to the United States and lived in the San Francisco area. Her father began working as a pastry chef for the airline industry. Tragically, Josephine’s mother became ill and passed from this life when Josephine was ten years old. This began a new life, one of service for Josephine. She took on much more family responsibilities and daily tasks.

Josephine’s father remarried and her stepmother, Veronica, the oldest of 10 children, had a younger brother Cletus. Cletus and Josephine began corresponding and later married. Josephine moved to Missouri and worked with Cletus on the family farm.

In 1951, the young couple and their firstborn child moved to Susanville. Cletus began working at Lassen Lumber and Box and Josephine worked as a waitress. As their family quickly began to grow Josephine then dedicated all of her time to family duties. When her children became older and took on more responsibilities, Josephine was able to spend her time visiting neighbors and friends. Also she loved attending Mass daily and twice on Sundays.

Josephine was budget conscious and enjoyed finding the best deals. Her pantry and freezer were always well stocked. Even though the family experienced their share of challenges and hardships there was always plenty to eat.

Josephine would share how she had five boys and five girls and how she had two sons before the good Lord answered her prayer and blessed her with a daughter. She also shared how thankful she was being born in a time period where there were many conveniences; cars, washers and dryers, and all the such.

She is survived by her sister, Lona Stalker of Arizona, Sons: David of Oregon, Alan (wife Lami) of Idaho, Ken (wife Carolyn) of Susanville, Phil (wife Brenda) of Susanville. Daughters: Mary of Burney, Virginia of Susanville, Judy Waybright of Susanville and Loree Lippsmeyer (husband Brian) of Roseville. In addition she has 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Josephine was preceded in death by Cletus her husband of 55 years, a son Paul and a daughter Marette Wakeman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caring and Sharing, care of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Susanville California.

Judith Smith-Swayze

Judith Smith-Swayze, long-time Susanville resident.  Born January 1st, 1953, Died September 7th, 2021.

Judy Smith-Swayze, whether you were her friend or a family member, no one doubted they were cared about and for by her.  Her faith gave her the strength to endure any situation that beset her, especially through the health challenges she faced daily for years and bolstered her to care about and for anyone that came in her path along life’s way.  She was a loving daughter who cared tirelessly for her mother with the passing of her father decades earlier.

Judy was a warm, kind, welcoming person to those with whom she came in contact.  Her home was a place of hospitality for many people through the years who benefitted from her naturally sharing nature that provided a moment’s respite.  Her attitude was one of finding the silver lining in a dark cloud situation for herself or another person expressing outright hope as she had for herself when the second diagnosis came earlier this year.

She will be missed beyond comprehension for the lives inside and outside of her extended family to whom she extended kindness in the form of a greeting, an invitation, an unexpected expression of generosity, whether in spirit or sharing from what she felt she had been blessed with and was called upon to share.

Judy believed to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.  May she find rest eternally as we miss her here on earth.

Marc Jarrett  October 23, 1963 – September 10, 2021

Marc Jarrett, 57, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2021.  Marc was born to Everett and Ruby Jarrett on October 23, 1963 in San Jose, California.  Marc was married to his loving wife Jennifer and together they had four children Judson, Andrew, Mitchell and Katheryn, and two grandchildren Sam and Kaelan.

To know Mark is to know he treasured his family and friends.  His favorite role was Husband, Dad and Papa.  Marc cherished his wife of 29 years and always strived to make her happy.  His children were the stars in his eyes and he loved spending time with them.  His family was his sanctuary.

Marc was also a devoted brother to his sister, Lorna Jarrett Blanchard, a loving Uncle to his niece, Alannah, and nephew David.  When his sister and brother-in-law, Wayne, had to take their daughter for another surgery or hospital visit, Marc would fly to the east coast to take care of his nephew and his mom Ruby.  Marc and Lorna were close; they were each other’s confidant, sounding board, sparring partner and truly best friends.

Marc’s strong work ethic and love of fairness and justice led him to become a Peace Officer for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in 1988.  During his tenure at California Correctional Center, Marc worked in the Camp Division where he served at Eel River, High Rock Conservation Camp, Ishi Conservation Camp and Konocti Conservation Camp.  Marc promoted to Sergeant in 2001, Lieutenant in 2006 and Captain in 2014.  Marc retired in 2016.

Through his work, Marc met many individuals and cultivated lifelong friendships throughout the state. He touched many lives. It is that gift of deep caring, a keen intellect and loyalty he gave to many friends, he was a rock they could lean on.

In his retirement, Marc enjoyed lending a hand to his two sons who lived locally.  Marc had a passion for traveling ot places like Disney World and Mexico.  In his spare time, he kept busy being a carpenter and woodworker and took great pleasure in cooking holiday feasts and big family dinners.  His newest little love, his grandson Kaelan, kept him busy and smiling.

Marc will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Marc is survived by his wife, Jennifer; sons, Judson, Andrew and Mitchell; daughter Katheryn; sister, Lorna; brother-in-law Wayne; niece Alannah; nephew David; and grandchildren, Sam and Kaelan.
